I've mentioned before that food is one of my outlets when I'm feeling down or stressed. That's been a challenge on the diet in the past but I've started to notice a trend moving away from my old pattern of junk food first when it comes to using food to treat it. Pasta isn't really the healthiest option available to me, but it's really become my go-to meal when I'm down and want a pick-me-up.
Probably part of it is the garlic toast I make with it, some of it is the ease and familiarity that pasta brings, and some of it is probably my addiction to grains (or so several diet books would have me believe). The last two nights have involved meals that are at least a little unhealthy, and as such are occasional treats at best. Pasta doesn't have to be. I'm hopeful that one consequence of the diet is that I'll continue to treat pasta the same way, and won't go back to burgers and fries as the primary go-to for stress and depression.
Food today: egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast (300 calories), PB&J sandwich for lunch (500 calories), no snacks at work today thanks to the candy being gone and me being out of granola bars, and dinner was the aforementioned penne, sauce and garlic toast (1000 calories). Exercise was a lunchtime walk (100 calories).
